Overview

This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 4, 2025. East Kalgoorlie Primary School (EKPS) is situated on the eastern fringe of Kalgoorlie-Boulder in Williamstown. Our students reside all over the city, 94% of whom are Aboriginal. With one of the lowest ICSEA values in the state (648), it is a priority to engage with our community and stakeholders to develop strong structures and supports so every child can achieve regardless of location or personal circumstance. All staff are committed to being culturally responsive. We pride ourselves on vigorous wrap-around services that emphasise student health and well-being, high-quality teaching and learning, and strong relationships within the school and our community. The Role

EKPS is seeking a motivated and compassionate person to join our team as a Student Support Officer. The successful applicant will ideally develop supportive links between the student, the family, the school and other agencies in the community. They should assist in liaising with families, students, staff and relevant agencies, identify problems and provide solutions, and maintain a determined focus on achieving outcomes to support families in providing the best opportunities for their children. The role includes providing support to teachers on strategies for supporting students and facilitating group work processes, and actively participating in multi-disciplinary team meetings.

The successful applicant should have good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with other staff and service providers, and effective planning and organisation skills. They will use their initiative to help seek solutions to improve the general care and well-being of students.

Eligibility

To work with us, you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment
  • obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start
