Overview

Senior Planning Officer at the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage in Western Australia. This role contributes to delivering Department and State government priorities to create a contemporary and strategic planning system, supports change, and helps regional communities thrive.

Location: Perth CBD. Our Perth office is located in the Perth CBD, above the Perth Underground rail, close to Wellington Street Bus Station and City CAT services.

Base pay range

A$129,211.00/yr - A$142,460.00/yr

Role summary

The Senior Planning Officer assists with the delivery of departmental and State priorities, reviews planning matters, undertakes planning projects, contributes to policy change and reviews to ensure they remain contemporary and fit for purpose, consults with client bodies and the public on planning projects and policy matters, and may undertake procedures related to infrastructure coordination. This is a pool recruitment process for permanent full-time and fixed-term opportunities that may arise within the Department or across the WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with investigation and reporting on a wide range of complex planning matters.
  • Undertake planning projects, contribute to policy change and review existing policies to ensure they remain contemporary and fit for purpose.
  • Consult with and advise client bodies and the public on planning projects and policy-related matters; may undertake procedures related to infrastructure coordination.
  • Work in alignment with State government priorities and contribute to reform activities to enable sustainable growth.
To be successful for this position
  • A degree in Urban and Regional Studies, Urban and Regional Planning or an approved equivalent degree relevant to planning is essential.
  • Substantial experience working in the WA planning system with knowledge of planning practices, legislation, policy and systems and/or infrastructure coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing significant, complex projects or leading policy development and review.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex and/or competing information to make balanced recommendations.
  • Highly developed communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated behaviours consistent with the leadership context and Personal Leadership within the Leadership Expectations.

Core leadership behaviours outlined in Leadership Expectations are applicable to this role and should be demonstrated in the context of Personal Leadership. The Personal Leadership context reflects the work of individuals not yet in traditional leadership positions who make a direct and immediate difference to the agency.
