Senior Investment Data Engineer

• Based in Sydney CBD and is open to candidates looking at relocating.

Join a leading investment management firm in driving technology and data uplift. This role will make a large impact on the business and how they operate from a technology standpoint. With 25+ portfolios, a growing investment team and a strong market position, the firm is focused on enhancing its data infrastructure to support new investment strategies.

This role combines quant analytics with engineering to develop well-structured data solutions that enable investment teams to access high-quality and well-structured data efficiently.

The Senior Data Engineer will play a strategic role in defining cloud architecture, modernising data pipelines and scaling infrastructure to handle large volumes of market data.

You'll work within the investment team, closely collaborating with portfolio managers and researchers, ensuring seamless data accessibility and integration for decision-making.

This is an opportunity to bring modern cloud skills into the team, bridge technical knowledge gaps and introduce new methodologies to uplift infrastructure and drive innovation.

• Lead the data infrastructure migration from on Prem to Snowflake, ensuring optimal performance and best practices
• Architect, design and implement scalable, efficient data pipelines to process large investment data sets for research and production consumption
• Implement and manage Airflow, Dagstar, Spark, or similar tools for automated workflows and distributed computing
• Implement AI/ML models to provide structured insights from unstructured data for the quantitative teams
• Develop methodologies to manage and structure large-scale data efficiently
• Define and execute long-term infrastructure strategies to support investment data needs
• Work closely with portfolio managers and researchers, attending research meetings to align data solutions with business needs
• Stay ahead of emerging technologies, introduce new tools and optimise data delivery

• Minimum 5 years Experience in data engineering with a focus designing and implementing data architectures
• Strong Python & SQL skills, particularly for data pipeline automation and querying large datasets
• MUST HAVE Experience in implementing Snowflake
• MUST HAVE Experience implementing AI / ML models for quantitative analytics
• MUST HAVE a degree in Data science, IT or Quantitative finance
• Nice to have an interest in Quantitative finance or AI models for investment strategies
• Expertise in Azure Cloud and Snowflake for data architecture and processing
• Experience working with market data feeds and investment-related datasets
• Experience with vendor data feeds such as Factset, Bloomberg, S&P
• Strong working knowledge of Equities, Derivatives, Fixed Income or other asset classes
• Familiarity with data orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster
• Understanding of distributed computing frameworks (Spark or similar)
• Curious, driven and innovative - constantly seeking ways to improve and modernise infrastructure
• Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
