Healthcare Assistant

An exciting opportunity has emerged within South East Essex Community Health Services to be part of the inpatient Intermediate Care Frailty/Stroke facility at Rochford Hospital. At Essex University Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, we are looking for talented and caring Healthcare Assistants to join our inpatient team. To assist the senior team in providing care and physical rehabilitation to people who require a short term period of recovery outside their own homes following an acute event or deterioration that may or may not have resulted in an acute hospital stay. The aim is to provide person centred rehabilitation to enable patients to reach their maximum potential and live as independently as possible.

• Encourage patients to participate in activities of daily living and facilitate their active involvement in therapeutic activities.
  
• Assist the patient work towards rehabilitation goals to enhance independence and wellbeing.
  
• Ensure active involvement in manual handling of patients as required – in line with the Trust's Manual Handling Policy.
  
• To work within the guidance of the Infection Control Policy and wearing appropriate protective clothing at all times.
  
• Observe, record and report changes in the patient's health and environment to senior staff.
  
• To be familiar with the steps to be taken in medical emergencies and act accordingly.
  
• Complete observations including urinalysis and blood sugar monitoring as required.
  
• Collect patient specimens as required.
  
• Observe and record dietary needs and fluid intake as required.
  
• Assist the senior team with visits, case conferences, etc., as necessary.
  
• Work directly with the therapists within the team to support them in providing effective assessment and treatment.
  
• Assist in planning work together with the senior Team.
  
• Assist in contributing to care planning and risk management plans.

What is Staff Bank?

Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings. Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able to offer safe and effective care at all times. All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

The Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) brings together key health, care, community, and voluntary sector organisations from across our area. Our aim is to work together to join up health and care services, improving our population's health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities. One example is the launch of our HCA Academy, an ICS initiative between Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) and Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSEFT) to support the incoming Health Care Assistant workforce. The academy models a 'one workforce' cross-system approach to onboarding, induction, education and experience of Healthcare Assistants.

To support this 'one workforce model' the successful candidate will be required to attend a five day (Monday to Friday) face to face Induction Programme at our MSE ICS Education Hub at Brentwood Community Hospital. Your start date will fall on one of two HCA Academy induction dates across the month, which will be discussed and agreed during the recruitment process.

Our HCA Academy Induction programme has been designed to train and support the successful candidate through the early stages of their employment at EPUT and will provide opportunities to enhance skills, knowledge and experience. Further information will be provided post interview. This will be followed by an additional five day (Monday to Friday) EPUT corporate / mandatory training welcome (EPUT Welcome will be varied between face to face and virtual delivery).
