The Reach Foundation strongly upholds the safety and wellbeing of all young people and participants. Recognising that some participants experience additional vulnerabilities, and young people under the age of 18 require additional protection.

Role Overview:

The Wellbeing Manager plays an important role in advancing The Reach Foundation's commitment to child safety, wellbeing, and organisational capability. The position upholds the 11 Child Safe Standards and National Principles of Child Safety ensuring organisational and workforce compliance as well.

Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the CEO and People & Culture, the role combines expertise in psychology, safeguarding, and program operations to ensure services are delivered to the highest standards. The role blends operational and services oversight with strategic safeguarding and wellbeing responsibilities.

The Wellbeing Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing Reach's Wellbeing Framework across all programs. Guided by a Positive Youth Development approach, the role applies professional expertise to ensure the social and emotional wellbeing of young people is supported. This includes collaborating with facilitators, leaders, and external partners to uphold child safety, deliver best practice support, and build the organisation's wellbeing capability.

Duties and responsibilities:

Wellbeing and Program Support:

  • Address the social and emotional wellbeing needs of participants across Reach programs.
  • Provide advice, supervision, and debrief support to facilitators during and after workshops.
  • Follow up on wellbeing concerns, including child safety issues, in line with policy and legislation.
  • Collaborate with Team Leaders to ensure program requirements are met with safe, evidence-informed practice.
  • Support Crew development through individual and group supervision, coaching, and interpersonal support.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Design and deliver specialised wellbeing training and resources to strengthen organisational knowledge and skills.
  • Lead group peer supervision for the facilitation team.
  • Work with Reach training leads and external experts to ensure high-quality training and development opportunities.
  • Deliver relevant annual training sessions and contribute to workforce learning.

Service Delivery and Compliance:

  • Ensure supervision is in place for program delivery to maintain workforce alignment and quality.
  • In addition to the CEO, act as a key contact for child safety or handling complaint matters, making reports to schools, teachers, and/or authorities where necessary.
  • Uphold and embed the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and the 11 Victorian Child Safe Standards in all practices.
  • Maintain accurate records, case notes, prepare reports, and contribute to policy development as required.

Leadership and Culture:

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe workplace culture.
  • Advocate for Reach's philosophy and programs internally and externally.
  • Collaborate constructively across teams to ensure safe, impactful, and evidence-informed practices.
  • Adhere to Reach's policies, including the Young Person Wellbeing Policy, and relevant professional ethical codes (AASW, APS, ACA, PACFA).

Key Selection Criteria:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Mental Health or Youth Work. Current registration or membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., APS, AASW, PACFA).
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience working with young people in therapy, school wellbeing, case management, or a related role.
  • Proven expertise in risk assessment (including suicide risk), child protection reporting, and crisis management.
  • Demonstrated success in providing supervision, mentoring, or professional development for staff or volunteers.
  • Experience embedding wellbeing and child safety frameworks into programs and organisational practice.
  • Strong clinical judgement, counselling, and referral skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of developmental, mental health, and wellbeing needs of young people.
  • Knowledge of Positive Youth Development, Positive Psychology, CBT, ACT, group work, and trauma-informed care.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage young people and stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational, administrative, and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
