Job Summary

Two Rivers Medical Centre is seeking a healthcare assistant (HCA) for a 9-month fixed-term contract. This vital patient-facing role involves both clinical and administrative responsibilities. This role provides an opportunity to enhance your skills within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Candidates must have previous primary care experience, as the role differs significantly from other settings.

Main duties of the job

  1. Perform baseline observations such as pulse, oximetry, temperature, blood pressure, and blood glucose, recording findings accurately.
  2. Wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy, and administering medicines and vaccines.
  3. Ensure clinical rooms are stocked and prepared for each session.
  4. Update patient health records.
  5. Manage medical supplies inventory.
  6. Act as a chaperone when required.
  7. Communicate with patients, relatives, and carers, providing health promotion and education.
  8. Conduct new patient health checks.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Successful completion of the Care Certificate or willingness to undertake it, as indicated by the CQC
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent

Experience (Essential)

  • Experience working in a GP practice
  • Strong clinical skills including venepuncture/phlebotomy
  • Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidential, compassionate, and respectful approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
