The Team

The Australian Equities Research Team focuses on producing high quality and insightful research on listed companies and industry sectors in the Australian region, as well as on global thematic trends impacting sectors under coverage. The team builds long‑term relationships with regional and global institutional investment firms, listed and unlisted companies and key industry players.

The Role

An opportunity exists for a highly talented professional to lead our Australian Natural Resources Equity Research team with lead coverage in Metals & Mining. The role will lead coverage of mining companies across subsectors and supervise Analysts focused on Energy and Rare‑Earths / Minerals Sands in Australia. You will collaborate with globally ranked, leading regional and global natural resources research teams based in HK, London, and NYC. You will produce highly differentiated thematic and strategic equity research and compelling tactical investment ideas for a sophisticated global and local client base, supported by world‑leading Commodities Research and the regional/global platform including Economic and ESG Research. You should have a strategic mindset and commercial acumen with technical skills to perform complex, forward‑looking modeling, industry research and valuation projections, and the ability to present actionable investment theses to internal and external audiences.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
  • Lead Analyst responsibility for the Bank's Australian Resources coverage, including production of differentiated thematic and company‑specific strategic equity research and compelling tactical investment ideas.
  • Provide leadership, development, coaching, and mentoring of a team of analysts across Energy and various industry subsectors to develop an industry‑leading, well‑ranked team.
  • Develop complex, forward‑looking modeling, industry research and valuation projections to drive differentiated and compelling research for clients.
  • Deepen and expand relationships in the Australian Resources Sector with investor relations, company management, other industry participants and institutional investors.
  • Collaborate with domestic, regional, and global colleagues on research projects and contribute distinctive views to enhance the Research platform offering.
  • Assess and manage risk in alignment with local and global regulations and firm policies, demonstrating ethics and integrity in line with the bank's values.
Preferred Background, Qualifications and Skills
  • Relevant work experience in banking, sell‑side equity research, buy‑side investment analysis or corporate roles alongside strong foundational knowledge.
  • Deep technical skills in company and industry analysis with business acumen to develop compelling research, synthesizing wider context with input from colleagues.
  • Exceptional communication skills to influence and deliver differentiated investment theses and actionable ideas to sophisticated institutional investors.
  • Ability to lead a team and collaborate with others domestically and internationally.
  • You should be a culture carrier for the Australian and Global Resources team and the broader Australian Research team.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, drive to deliver results, and responsibility for outcomes.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, curious, and enthusiastic about equity research.
