Youth and Family Team Leader – VACCA (Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency)

Location: Preston, VIC, Australia

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Salary: $110,389 to $112,541 depending on qualifications and experience, plus superannuation and salary packaging options

Responsibilities
  • Lead, guide and support Youth and Family Support Workers in day-to-day case management, modelling high standards of practice and advocating for the best interests of each child and young person within their family and community.
  • Provide culturally safe supervision, oversee caseloads, support professional development, team building, monitoring, compliance, auditing, reporting, data collection, program development and ongoing quality improvement of the program.
  • Assess and manage risk within the program and ensure up-to-date safety planning for all children and young people in line with best practice.
About You / Qualifications
  • A relevant qualification in Social Work, Welfare or related field, or equivalent experience; you may be required to complete additional training to meet qualification requirements for Residential Care.
  • Leadership experience in the child and family sector, including providing support, feedback and professional development opportunities.
  • Knowledge of child and family welfare policies, legislation and practices, especially regarding children in Residential Care.
  • Strong and clear verbal and written communication skills within a culturally respectful context with staff, partners and clients (including case notes, emails and reports).
  • Experience working with Aboriginal families and children; awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal cultures and diversity within Aboriginal communities and staff.
  • Ability to collaborate with professionals, stakeholders and the community, upholding Gamadji Balit principles: cultural identity, family participation, connection to country, mutual respect and collective responsibility.
  • High-level organizational skills, including time management, planning and teamwork; flexibility to work varied hours as needed.
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster as applicable), Working with Children Check for paid employment (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence.
