Overview

Lawyer, Medical Indemnity - Lander & Rogers

Our medical indemnity insurance team is growing, presenting an excellent opportunity for a Lawyer seeking the next step in their career. The role involves providing general insurance clients with legal advice on medical indemnity, health law litigation, and related inquiries.

Responsibilities
  • Managing medical negligence litigation as part of a team, including attending formal mediations and informal settlement conferences
  • Managing coronial inquiries and disciplinary proceedings against health entities and individual practitioners
  • Providing advice to insurers on cover, predominantly professional indemnity and medical indemnity insurance
  • Reviewing medical and health records
  • Preparing briefs for Counsel and expert witnesses
  • Drafting court documents, settlement deeds and Medical Panel referrals
  • Preparing advice including on indemnity, liability, prospects, quantum, reserves and strategy
  • Researching and providing legal analysis
  • Assisting with preparation and presenting on matters related to medical indemnity and health law litigation
  • Coaching and mentoring junior lawyers, graduates and seasonal clerks
  • Retaining and building business
About You (Qualifications and Skills)
  • 2+ years PAE (medical or health experience preferred)
  • Tertiary qualification in Law and a current Practising Certificate for the relevant jurisdiction
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and effective stakeholder management abilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships for effective client service and outcomes
  • Strong critical reasoning and investigative skills with lateral thinking
  • Highly organized with ability to plan and prioritise
  • Proficiency in conducting presentations and meetings with groups of varying sizes
  • Identify risks and comply with group risk management protocols
  • Willingness and ability to learn and develop new skills
  • Problem-solving with appropriate escalation when needed
  • Professional, client-focused and ethical approach
  • Resilient, able to remain calm under pressure
