Transport Service is a Group within Department of Transport & Planning, and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services to all Victorians.
About The Role
With an area covering 20 municipalities across western Victoria, including the regional cities of Geelong, Ballarat, Warrnambool and Horsham, Avalon Airport and the ports of Geelong and Portland, significant tourist destinations such as the Great Ocean Road and Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park and significant freight corridors servicing Western Victoria and beyond, Barwon South-West Grampians Region has a diverse range of transport needs and challenges.
The Movement & Safety Team Works In Partnership With Stakeholders And Communities Located Across Barwon South-West Grampians Region. We Explore, Develop And Deliver Solutions To Move People And Goods Efficiently And Safely While Being Sensitive To The Needs And Importance Of Enhancing Key Destinations And Places Across Victoria. We Do This By
- Responding to operational and safety matters across the transport network.
- Collaborating with key internal and external road safety and transport partners tasked with investigating and identifying opportunities to address short, medium and long-term needs for all transport modes. This includes managing issues related to congestion, speed limits, road safety, freight and amenity, pedestrians and cyclists, and contributing to changes that seek to meet the demand of current and emerging transport safety and movement challenges.
- Using knowledge of the operation of the network and influencing teams and projects to address such issues through design reviews and business case development.
- Investigating circumstances surrounding fatal collisions and identifying mitigating measures where possible while applying Safe System thinking.
- Working with our transport partners (including Councils) to explore network problems and develop solutions.
- Evaluating and processing on road event applications
- Assessing and implementing changes to road signage
- Providing timely and sound advice to the community and a range of internal and external stakeholders, based on relevant guidelines and standards
- The delivery of minor safety treatments and network improvements
- Developing solutions, recommendations and responses to road safety and traffic management issues and influencing transport project outcomes
- Applying safe system principles to investigate road issues in accordance with DTP's policies and procedures
This role requires strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to respond to client needs, follow through on requests, and resolve issues promptly. You will apply critical thinking and problem-solving to support effective outcomes, while using influence and persuasion through logical reasoning and evidence-based arguments. Success in the role also relies on building partnerships and supporting co-design processes, demonstrating professional interpersonal skills, and contributing to innovation and continuous improvement by delivering quality work and identifying opportunities to enhance effectiveness.

Position Accountabilities
- Stakeholder Management: Ability to work closely with stakeholders and the community to explore problems and develop solutions to achieve outcomes aligned with organisational objectives.
- Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and engage on understanding problems and providing constructive advice, tailoring communication to meet customer and stakeholder needs in a timely manner.
- Analytical Skills: Apply principles of relevant Acts, standards, and regulations and make decisions in response to moderately complex transport and safety matters while identifying opportunities to innovate and make lives better.
- Decision Making: Ability to make decisions under broad supervision, and within agreed timeframes, that are aligned with Safe System principles and the Movement & Place framework.
- Working Collaboratively: Ability to work in a team, demonstrating behaviours consistent with a constructive work culture including actively seeking and acting on feedback.
- In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities.
Mandatory
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work well within a team to achieve positive outcomes
- Experience relevant to the capabilities of the role
- Experience in traffic engineering and/or road safety
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- Driver's License
This is a full time role, based on a 76 hour fortnight, with ordinary hours of work to be undertaken during Monday to Friday between 7:00am and 7:00pm.
