To provide specialised technical abilities for advanced electrical trade work to support contemporary asset management within the Traffic Signals Section. The role involves limited supervision to both, upgrade and maintain the Tasmanian traffic control system to enable safe and efficient operation.

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a permanent, flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight).

Duties
  • Responsible for ensuring specialised expertise is effectively applied to provide program delivery outcomes during electrical asset inspections and works associated with
    • installation, testing, and maintenance of traffic signal infrastructure
    • installation, testing, and maintenance of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) assets
    • related assets, systems and equipment to ensure that it meets quality standards
  • Identify traffic signal equipment malfunctions and faults to complex operational/technical problems when required, including identifying traffic flow or congestion issues. Ensure these faults are rectified within KPI parameters.
  • Acquire knowledge of specialised management software including SCATS, STREAMS, CCTV and other control systems to monitor road network conditions and traffic signal assets.
  • Utilise and constantly update the Traffic Signals Maintenance fault and defect management system Reflect, to respond and rectify reported signal and other asset issues.
  • Assume the role of SME (Subject Matter Expert) whilst working closely with Works Coordinator, project managers and other stakeholders to provide clear and authoritative advice and recommendations for complex activities during the design, planning and delivery of complex programmed works.
  • Plan, document and coordinate the delivery of structured works for complex traffic signal projects, including the management of various contractors.
  • Undertake and complete regular specialised training to ensure currency of knowledge on signal and ITS assets.
  • Develop competency in the following:
    • Demonstrate expert knowledge of specialised management software including Reflect, SCATS, STREAMS, Security Desk and other control systems to monitor and interpret faults on the road network and traffic signal assets.
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of all TSM WHS systems: SWMS, Work instructions and Lucidity.
    • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Specification 730, 733 and associated drawings, and ensure the department acquires new assets compliant with these specifications and Australian Standards.
