Medical Laboratory Assistant - Pathology Collector/ Phlebotomist
Overview

NSW Health Pathology is seeking two dedicated Medical Laboratory Assistants in Pathology Collections at Westmead Hospital. The roles offer an opportunity to contribute to high-quality patient care by supporting the collection and preparation of pathology specimens. A variety of positions are available, including permanent part-time, temporary part-time and casual roles.

What You'll Be Doing

Perform venepuncture and other duties pertaining to specimen collection. Engage directly with patients and clinical staff. Ensure the efficient operation of the pathology service. Data entry, processing, and delivery of specimens to sites for pathology investigations as required. Contribute to a customer-focused pathology collection service across inpatient, outpatient and home care settings.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Certificate III in Pathology Collections and/or previous experience in venepuncture or demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the clinical environment relevant to the Department.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience and ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and clinical staff.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve issues within the clinical environment including specimen preparation and transport ensuring viability of the specimens.
  • Familiarity with pathology terminology and willingness to learn a broad scope of collection, data entry and specimen preparation practices including paediatric and neonate blood collections.
  • Unencumbered Class C Driver's License (valid in NSW) or ability to travel to any site for a shift as required.
  • Willingness to participate in shift type work including weekend work and travel to any site within the operational area as requested.
  • Ability to manage a demanding professional team environment with competing priorities and strict deadlines.
  • Proficient computer skills with high attention to detail and data accuracy.
