Join us as a Senior Communication Advisor, where you'll play a key role in shaping and delivering internal and external communications, and drive community engagement to support the State Emergency Service and its volunteers across Queensland.

In this dynamic role, you'll develop and deliver strategic communication initiatives that keep SES members informed, motivated, and aligned with organisational goals. You'll also support media relations, create impactful content, and engage with communities to promote disaster resilience and readiness, and the vital role of SES volunteers.

Your expertise in communications and relationship-building will be key to fostering collaboration with SES members, stakeholders, and the wider Queensland Police Service communication network.

The Core Capability Requirements For This Role Are

• Support the delivery of key internal communication tactics such as intranet, e-newsletters, email updates, Town Halls, internal social media and other channels to ensure timely and effective dissemination of information. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of these channels and make improvements as needed.
• Develop and write communication and marketing materials for events, publications, online platforms, presentations, and media releases.
• Prepare and write corporate communication material, talking points, and briefing material for use by State Emergency Service executives.
• Manage content on internal and external online platforms.
• Provide expertise in a range of stakeholder and community engagement using traditional and emerging channels.
• Identify proactive opportunities to market and promote the State Emergency Service and engage with communities to increase disaster resilience.
• Represent the Volunteer Services unit and build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including Queensland Police Service communication colleagues to achieve positive outcomes.
• Provide training to State Emergency Service volunteers and staff involved in communication activities.
  
  

Role Requirements

Qualification -

Qualifications or experience in journalism or corporate communications will be considered favourably.

Technical/ Operational/ Educational Experience -

Awareness of volunteer environments will be considered favourably.

Other -

Capacity to participate in an out of hours on call roster during disaster operations. This may require working extended hours, outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends.
