University Hospital Geelong Operating Services is seeking applications for Transition to Specialty Practice, Main Theatre, in Anaesthetics and PACU Nursing for 2026.
Responsibilities- 1-year specialist exposure in Main Operating Services within the Anaesthetic and PACU nursing team, with structured introduction to Anaesthetic and PACU roles
- Rotations through the theatre suite with dedicated support and study days
- Participation in End of Program assessment

About the FacilityMajor sites include University Hospital Geelong, McKellar Centre, Barwon Health North, and residential aged care facilities. Services extend across mental health, community health and dental services in the Barwon South West Region.
About the ServiceOperating Services at University Geelong Main theatre provides a round-the-clock service with ten operating theatres, handling elective, semi-urgent and emergency procedures. Specialities include Cardiothoracic, ENT, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Oral and Maxillofacial, Plastics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular and Robotic Surgery.
About the RoleThe program provides structured introduction to both Anaesthetic and PACU nursing with planned speciality rotations and study days, plus end-of-program assessment.
Anaesthetic NurseThe anaesthetic nurse supports perioperative care and assists the anaesthetist, contributing to patient safety from the perioperative area through the PACU.
Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) NursePACU nurses care for patients immediately after surgery, monitoring for complications and providing airway management, patient assessment and monitoring, and pain/nausea management, collaborating with Surgeons, Anaesthetists and other team members.
