Overview

Policy & Project Officer roles with the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. Three permanent full-time opportunities (35 hours per week) available in Parramatta with negotiation for other NSW locations. Salary relative to experience, from $113,574 to $125,720 plus super.

Energy Infrastructure Division within the Energy, Climate Change and Sustainability (ECCS) group provides strategic policy advice to deliver energy infrastructure initiatives and support development and delivery of energy projects.

About the teams

The Energy Infrastructure Division leads initiatives to maintain a safe, secure and reliable electricity and gas supply while advancing a clean, affordable energy future for NSW. It is responsible for policy stewardship, regulation and investment across energy infrastructure and markets, including generation, storage, networks and fuel pipelines, and coordinates emergency response and provides expert advice.

  • Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Networks and Access team – leading policy reforms to deliver REZ, network projects and access schemes to connect large-scale wind and solar.
  • Development and Performance team – policy stewardship of electricity network and gas pipeline safety and regulatory framework.
  • Generation and Storage Investment team – policy stewardship and reform for generation, firming and long-duration storage roadmaps.
About you

We are looking for candidates with a background in policy analysis and development who can identify and implement innovative solutions to complex challenges.

  • Experience in policy formation, research or analysis with ability to engage diverse stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes.
  • Ability to achieve assigned policy objectives in a high-volume, evolving work environment.
  • Provide policy analysis and advice to support development and delivery of strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Contribute to policy reviews by identifying, collecting and analysing information from diverse sources to inform advice.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, coordinating working groups and committees to contribute to policy development and implementation.
Key accountabilities
  • Undertake regulatory and commercial analysis to inform policy development and implementation, providing timely, evidence-based advice to support strategic decision-making on energy infrastructure initiatives.
  • Prepare policy or project documents including briefs, reports, status updates and discussion papers.
  • Support policy and project initiatives by managing delegated projects aligned with energy priorities, delivering on time, within budget, and to scope using established project management methodologies.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, industry representatives and technical experts to inform and refine policy approaches and ensure effective policy lifecycle communication.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality documentation (project plans, policy briefs, discussion papers, reports) to support monitoring, evaluation and reporting with transparency and accountability.
  • Coordinate consultations, working groups and governance committees to facilitate stakeholder engagement and policy alignment, informed by a broad range of perspectives.

Monitor and report on policy and project performance by sourcing and analysing data to track progress against milestones, identify issues and support continuous improvement.

Essential requirements
  • Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
