OHS Superintendent - Open Pit Mining Operations

The Company is seeking to employ an experienced Mining Occupational Health and Safety Superintendent to work as part of our Open Pit Mining team.

Overview

Kiaka Project

The Company acquired the Kiaka Gold Project (Kiaka) in 2021. Kiaka is a large-scale, permitted development open pit project and hosts 7.7Moz gold Mineral Resource (280Mt at 0.9 g/t Au). Kiaka will be a long-life, low-cost gold project averaging 234,000oz of gold production per annum for 20 years from 2025. Kiaka is 45km south of West African's flagship Sanbrado Gold Operations in Burkina Faso and about 110km southeast of the capital Ouagadougou. The project has Resources of 285 Mt at 0.9 g/t for 7.9 Moz gold and Reserves of 164 Mt at 0.9 g/t for 4.8 Moz gold. Mining and production ramp-up underway at Kiaka, and the company has realised its strategy of having two long-life, unhedged, low-cost gold production centres in operation in 2025. First gold at Kiaka is a major milestone for West African and a key step towards the company's target of being a +500,000 ounces per annum gold producer by 2030.

The Role

The Company is seeking to employ an experienced Mining Occupational Health and Safety Superintendent to work as part of our Open Pit Mining team. The Mining OHS Superintendent will support the Open Pit Mining team (owner mining) in establishing, reviewing and implementing OHS processes and standards in accordance with legislative requirements and corporate guidelines. The successful candidate must have comprehensive experience in the development, planning and implementation of high standards of work health and safety policies in either an owner mining or contract mining environment. The Mining OHS Superintendent will work closely with the Mining Training Superintendent to ensure that consistent standards and processes are developed and adopted. The Superintendent roles (Training and OHS) will provide coverage for each role.

Role Responsibilities

• Support mining operations by reviewing, developing, implementing, and training OHS systems, procedures, and processes in collaboration with the Open Pit Mining team.
• Implement and monitor the mining safety management systems to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
• Oversee contractor compliance with safety standards and systems.
• Drive continuous improvement in safety performance through proactive engagement with site leaders.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and subsidiary OHS personnel, OHS authorities, training providers, and suppliers.
• Collaborate closely with the Kiaka and subsidiary OHS and Training team to align standards and systems.
• Support the development and delivery of site and role-specific OHS induction programs.
• Establish fit-for-purpose systems for incident reporting, investigations, and follow-up actions.
• Maintain the department's risk register and facilitate regular risk assessments.
• Lead and participate in ICAM investigations for open pit mining and other areas as required.
• Conduct quality reviews of risk assessments to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
• Perform regular workplace inspections and audits to monitor safety standards.
• Prepare OHS performance reports, including key metrics, trends, and improvement opportunities.
• Promote and mentor a strong safety-first culture across the team.

Experience and Qualifications

To be successful in the role you will be an OHS professional with recent and relevant open pit mining industry experience with the following skills, experience and qualifications:

• Tertiary qualifications in OHS or related disciplines.
• 5+ years' experience working in open pit mining in a senior OHS or leadership roles (owner mining or contract mining environment).
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of developing mining OHS systems and processes aligned with legislative requirements.
• Working knowledge of mining operations in West Africa / Burkina Faso.
• Strong knowledge of safety management systems, auditing and incident reporting and investigation, ICAM Lead preferred.
• High level of personal organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task, be customer-focused with excellent problem-solving skills.
• Enthusiastic, hands-on approach.
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office and OHS management reporting software.
• Bilingual English / French (highly regarded).
