About The Team

The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is a large division within the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources (DISR). The NMI supports DISR in meeting its objectives by being the national authority on measurement. We play a fundamental role underpinning the Australian economy by maintaining and regulating Australia's measurement system, developing and maintaining national measurement standards, and delivering world-class measurement products and client services.

NMI's Legal Metrology Branch plays an important role in ensuring Australian consumers and industry can rely on trusted measurements for fair trade in goods and services. The Legal Metrology Branch supports and regulates industry to provide trusted measurements for fair trade in goods and services via administration of the National Measurement Act 1960 and subordinate regulations. The role will be within the Programs and Governance Section within the Legal Metrology Branch.

The opportunity

The Data Architect will support the Legal Metrology Branch to deliver a major IT enhancement project for DISR; the Trade Measurement Activity and Reporting System Phase 4 Enhancement Project (the project). • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, including well developed negotiation and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
  • Build and sustain relationships; liaise with a range of stakeholders within and outside of the division.
  • Adhere to the Australian Public Service Values, NMI values and Code of Conduct and consistently behave in an honest, ethical and professional way.

What you will do

As a Data Architect You Will
  • In consultation with stakeholders, map existing data holdings, inputs and dependencies impacted by the project.
  • Investigate and recommend optimisation of the use of data holdings for the different streams of the project.
  • Design and implement data architecture and integration frameworks that enable best practice data lifecycle management and ensure compliance with relevant standards, policies and regulations.
  • Design and implement documentation to support renewed data processes.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to optimise existing reporting processes, including setting standards for data accuracy and quality.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of revised and renewed data processes, adapting the approach when new information is presented.
