We're looking for a skilled Research Services Officer (Digital & Data Support) who is passionate about digital innovation, data-driven insights, and enabling world-class research.

About the Role

In this role, you'll sit at the intersection of research, technology, and data. You'll design and implement digital tools and workflows that streamline research administration, modernise data systems, and empower researchers with insights that drive impact.

Your expertise will directly support JCU's research community by integrating new technologies, enabling smarter use of research metrics, and contributing to a sustainable Research ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deploy digital solutions that automate and enhance research processes, including the application of AI and emerging technologies.
  • Support the creation of interactive dashboards and data visualisations that inform research planning and strategic decision-making.
  • Drive the transition from legacy databases to modernised, centralised platforms that improve efficiency and sustainability.
  • Build data pipelines by integrating APIs and external systems into JCU's research infrastructure.
  • Promote data literacy and support best practice in the use of research metrics across the University.
What You'll Bring
  • Strong skills in data extraction, analysis, and visualisation (Excel, Power BI or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with scripting/programming (SQL, Python, R) for data automation and workflow optimisation.
  • Technical expertise in Linux/Windows environments and databases (Oracle, MariaDB, MS SQL Server).
  • Understanding of APIs and system integration for research workflows.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with researchers, administrators, and executives.
  • Experience with AI-enabled tools or workflows to support research (desirable).
