Overview

The City of Perth is a Local Government authority that aims to deliver community aspirations. The Media and Communications Lead heads the Media and Communications team, provides specialist advice to protect and enhance the City's reputation, and fosters strong relationships with key stakeholders and the community. The role leads strategic and proactive media and public affairs initiatives and oversees management of the City's social media channels.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality, strategic media advice to the Lord Mayor, Chief Executive Officer, Alliance leadership, and other key internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across Alliances and service units to deliver timely, coordinated promotion of City activities.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key media contacts across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.
  • Manage the Media and Communications budget in line with the City's financial policies and strategic priorities.
About You / Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in media and communications across traditional and digital channels.
  • Excellent written communications skills and storytelling ability.
  • High-level experience in media relations and crisis management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with multidisciplinary teams, including staff development and performance management.
Eligibility
  • Right to work in Australia (e.g. birth certificate, current passport or current visa).
  • A satisfactory National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months).
