Overview

Staff Specialist - Anatomical Pathology (514395) role at Department of Health, Tasmania. North Tasmanian Pathology Services (NTPS) is the sole public pathology provider in Northern Tasmania, delivering diagnostic services to Launceston General Hospital and surrounding regions. The team supports the health and wellbeing of the Tasmanian community through high-quality pathology services for general practitioners, specialists, and private hospitals, with no out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare-eligible tests where applicable. The department is part of a network of hospitals and services across Tasmania including Royal Hobart Hospital and Launceston General Hospital.

Position Details
  • Role Type: Permanent, Full Time
  • Hours: 76 hours per fortnight (flexible to negotiate)
  • Start Date: As soon as possible

This selection process may be used to fill future full-time or part-time vacancies over the next 12 months.

Salary & Benefits

This position offers a competitive remuneration package in line with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022, including:

  • Salary range: $216,300 – $310,389 per annum
  • 12% Superannuation
  • Access to Salary Packaging
  • Private practice allowances and related benefits as outlined in the package
  • Optional Salary Packaging and Fitness benefits as described

Salary notes: remuneration package for this position, classified as Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 9, starts at $484,000 per annum with potential for higher earnings under the Specialist Medical Practitioner Award (Tasmania). Senior Specialist salary range eligibility criteria apply as per the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.

  • Private vehicle provision or vehicle allowance up to $28,389 per annum
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance: $16,480 per annum
  • Relocation and commencement support up to $15,000 for approved appointees
  • Private Practice Scheme or equivalent allowances (35%)
  • Salary packaging options include living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 for meals/entertainment per year
  • Fitness Passport for 40+ facilities: $13.95 per week per person or $25.95 for a family
Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet essential criteria:

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
  • Registration/licences must remain current and valid; status may be checked during employment. Employee is responsible for keeping registration/licence up to date and notifying changes. This includes revocation, cancellation, or altered conditions.

Desirable: Experience in Cytopathology procedures.

Pre-employment Checks

Pre-employment checks may include:

  • Conviction checks (violence, sex-related offences, serious drug offences, crimes involving dishonesty)
  • Identification check
  • Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Note: Graduates from RCPA awaiting final examination results are encouraged to apply.
