Workfast is looking for a hands-on and reliable Mechanical Trade Assistant/ Apprentice Mechanical Fitter to join the workshop team of a leading engineering company in Tomago, NSW.

Location: Tomago, NSW
Pay Rate: $37.50 per hour + Overtime + Super
Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm
Start Date: ASAP

This is a long-established and highly respected service and maintenance provider to freight rail rolling stock operators, known for flexibility and quality workmanship. This is a practical, shop floor-based role offering consistent full-time hours and the potential to transition into a permanent position. Full on-the-job training will be provided.

What You'll Be Doing
  • CNC machine operating
  • Loading and unloading of wheelsets
  • Arrival inspections of wheels and axles
  • Washing wheelsets
  • Bearing dismount
  • Assisting with bearing seal breakdown and bearing buffing
  • General housekeeping and cleaning duties
  • Supporting mechanical fitters and other trades as required
  • Using hand, air, and power tools
  • Maintaining a safe and organised workshop environment
About You
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or workshop environment
  • Competency with hand, air, and power tools
  • Physically fit and able to handle manual tasks
  • Safety-conscious and reliable
  • Strong team player with good mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Forklift licence and overhead crane experience highly advantageous
  • Qualifications related to mechanical fitting or engineering preferred
  • Currently enrolled in or ready to commence a Mechanical Fitter apprenticeship (beneficial but not essential)
