The Legal and Legislative Services (LLS) team in the Department of Health is a vibrant and multidisciplinary team of solicitors, legislative officers and administrators. We are proud to provide legal and legislative advice across a wide range of sensitive and high-profile matters across the Health portfolio, making a real difference to the health and wellbeing of Western Australians.

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, enthusiastic and dynamic senior lawyer to join our dedicated team. As a member of Legal and Legislative Services, you will be part of the cutting edge of law, effecting positive change within the community in areas such as human reproductive technology and surrogacy, human tissue and transplants, medicines and poisons, infectious disease management, procurement and service provision, and health research and development.

You will exercise your professional judgement to provide pragmatic legal advice on a wide range of legal and legislative matters across the Health portfolio, with the support of a great team. You will be expected to work closely and collaboratively with all areas of the Department of Health and other stakeholders. Your legal tasks will include complex, sensitive and high-profile work, including providing legal advice on commercial arrangements, policy initiatives and litigation matters. You will be an integral part of an agile, supportive team of lawyers, legislative advisers and administrators, where you will have a high level of autonomy.

As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to provide leadership and exemplify integrity in all situations, in addition to applying your extensive legal and management skills and experience in providing sound legal advice and managing direct reports.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced legal practitioner who relishes the challenge of responding to a wide range of legal issues that emerge on a day-to-day basis in a complex and evolving public health system. This person will need to be able to navigate complex legal and regulatory frameworks, support high-level decision-making while exercising their professional judgement with a high level of autonomy.
