What You'll Do

As a Graduate Data Analyst, you will immerse yourself in a dynamic environment where your ability to interpret complex datasets will directly influence strategic decisions. Your day-to-day activities will involve synthesising information from multiple sources to anticipate emerging risks, ensuring that reporting mechanisms are both efficient and effective. You will collaborate with colleagues at all levels supporting senior staff with data preparation and visualisation tasks while also engaging in discussions that drive continuous improvement in analytic methodologies. Your written communication skills will be essential as you draft reports and presentations designed for high-level audiences. By participating in ongoing change initiatives around data governance, you will help shape best practices within the division. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also a willingness to share knowledge generously with others, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where every contribution is valued.
  • Leverage open-source information and sensitive data feeds to identify patterns, trends, and potential future threats relevant to national security.
  • Aid in developing and managing robust reporting processes that ensure outputs are accurate, complete, timely, and actionable for decision-makers.
  • Support senior staff and colleagues by preparing, enhancing, visualising, and presenting key findings, assessments, and priorities using various data tools.
  • Participate in change initiatives focused on data governance and process improvement to strengthen security operations and data management practices.
  • Draft clear materials that enable enhanced data analytics capabilities within the division and across the wider department.
  • Assist in translating complex datasets into accessible insights tailored for senior leadership audiences.
  • Contribute actively to team objectives by collaborating on projects that require both independent initiative and group input.
  • Undertake additional duties as required by project officers or management to support evolving organisational needs.

What You Bring
  • Recent graduation in Information Technology, Security Studies, Business or Commerce-related fields provides you with a strong academic foundation for this analytical role.
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, and Word ensures you can manage communications and manipulate data effectively from day one.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities allow you to approach complex challenges methodically and collaboratively.
  • Capacity to participate constructively in discussions aimed at identifying solutions to data or procedural issues highlights your interpersonal strengths.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills enable you to convey technical concepts clearly while supporting daily operations within your team.
  • Strong writing skills empower you to translate intricate datasets into actionable insights tailored for senior decision makers.
  • Ability to assist senior staff members demonstrates your commitment to shared goals and collective success within the organisation.
  • Australian citizenship with an existing Negative Vetting Level 2 (NV2) security clearance.
  • Familiarity with digital & data skills such as SQL, Power BI or Python enhances your capacity for evidence-based decision-making.
  • Prior experience working in or alongside Federal Government departments gives you valuable context for navigating public sector environments.
