Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital is an acute hospital supporting a population of approximately 80,000. It is the only ANZAC Memorial hospital remaining in NSW and works with the community to maintain high-quality healthcare.

Role Summary

Health & Security Assistant in the Security Services team to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, patients and visitors. Responsibilities include responding to incidents, de-escalating challenging situations, and collaborating with healthcare teams and NSW Police as needed. You will support frontline healthcare professionals by responding to alarms, supervising key areas, and carrying out essential duties to keep the hospital running smoothly. Strong communication and a calm, capable approach are essential.

Responsibilities

• Respond to alarms and security incidents
• Supervise key areas and assist with incident de-escalation
• Collaborate with healthcare teams and NSW Police when required
• Support frontline staff and maintain a secure hospital environment
• Move equipment and assist patients in line with WHS principles
• Work independently with minimal supervision; also contribute effectively as part of a team
• Communicate clearly with staff, patients, and the public; apply security techniques, conflict resolution, de-escalation, and restraint when necessary
• Participate in a 7-day rotating roster including weekends and holidays, with morning, afternoon, and night shifts
• Hold a current Driver's Licence and be willing to travel for work

What You Will Bring To The Role

• Current NSW Security Industries License 1A and a nationally recognised First Aid Certificate or equivalent
• Experience in the security industry as a Security Officer is desirable
• Ability to manage aggressive incidents and respond to duress situations
• Ability to assist with moving equipment and patients in line with WHS principles
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; take direction from clinical and non-clinical staff
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; understanding of security techniques, de-escalation and restraint practices
• Willingness to work a 7-day rotating roster including weekends and holidays
• Current Driver's Licence and willingness to use for work-related travel
