Technical Inspector - Representative Support

About the opportunity

As a WorkSafe Inspector within Representative Support, you will attend a comprehensive training program in a supportive environment. Once appointed, you will spend a large portion of your time inspecting workplaces across sites and projects with a specialist focus on consultation, representation and issue resolution in the OHS Act 2004.

During inspections, you will assess compliance with legislative requirements and take appropriate action. This may range from providing advice to employers, supervisors and workers on legislative requirements to enforcing compliance measures.

You will also be required to provide specialist advice and expertise to WorkSafe's field team and stakeholders in relation to appropriate legislation and its application to workplace Health and Safety Representatives, Authorised Representatives of Registered Employee Organisations (ARREOs), employer representatives and other duty holders.

About you

  • A systems-thinking approach through experience and/or application
  • Highly developed critical thinking, influencing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • The ability to assess and investigate situations efficiently to make timely decisions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, interpret, and apply legislation or technical standards in a regulatory capacity
  • Proficiency in computer systems and technology
  • Qualifications in OHS or relevant industry / safety experience is desirable (but not essential)
Recruitment & training process

Below are indicative dates for each recruitment stage. Please note these may be subject to change. Specific dates will be provided to applicants as they progress:

  • Cognitive & Psychometric Assessments (online): September/October
  • Police, Reference & Medical Checks (in person): November/December
  • Offers & Contracts (online): December
  • Induction End Date (in person): 16 weeks after commencement

Eligibility requirements
  • Only applications submitted via the WorkSafe Victoria Careers website will be considered
  • Applicants must hold a valid, unrestricted Victorian Driver's Licence (or be eligible to obtain one)
  • Applicants must ensure their availability for all recruitment activities and induction training dates set by WorkSafe, as individual leave requests may not be able to be accommodated. Induction is scheduled for 3 days at our Essendon Fields office and 2 days at your local office each week for the full 16 week period. Successful applicants will also be required to enrol in a Diploma of Government.
  • Preferred candidates must successfully complete a National Criminal History Check, Reference Checks, and Medical Checks. Given the physical demands of this role, we must ensure you can perform the required duties safely.
  • Eligibility for ongoing employment with WorkSafe Victoria requires Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.
