Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Orientation & Mobility (O&M) specialist to join our team in Dubbo to provide O&M services that help individuals with vision impairment develop, enhance and maintain independence in activities of daily living.

Scholarship / Pathway: The Graduate Diploma in Orientation and Mobility is a 1-year program designed to prepare graduates for careers in O&M services. Opportunities include supervised work-integrated learning and financial support towards the Graduate Diploma (up to $9,000). Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate. 2026 Graduate O&M offer within the Albury/Dubbo team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to requests for information and support from people enquiring about services.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and professional relationships with clients, families, colleagues and supervisors, including individuals of all ages and from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Plan and conduct individualised, comprehensive O&M assessments, synthesize the findings in professionally written reports, and communicate results with clients, families and case teams as appropriate.
  • Plan effective, instructional, client-centred Orientation and Mobility programs.
  • Train the client in orientation and mobility techniques across a range of environments (indoor, residential, outdoor, business).
  • Monitor and evaluate a client's O&M skills to identify potentially dangerous situations and intervene to ensure client safety.
  • Facilitate development of independence and problem solving in various travel situations, in familiar and unfamiliar environments.
  • Undertake programs with people who have additional disabilities (physical, cognitive, hearing, brain injury, development and multiple).
  • Ensure client rights are upheld and services comply with ethical and professional standards.
  • Complete client program reports and relevant documentation as per departmental procedures.
Essential Experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Orientation & Mobility, and current COMS
  • Ability to travel regularly by car and domestic flight for overnight stays
  • Excellent communication skills, including sensitivity and clarity with clients and others
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills; flexible to varying workloads
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; attention to detail and problem solving
  • Proficiency with computer applications and modern technology
  • Current unrestricted driver's licence and good driving record
  • Willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check and an NDIS Worker Check
