What's the role?Our client, a leading Australian energy company, is seeking an experienced Network Tariff Manager to lead the design, implementation, and management of electricity network tariffs. This role is critical to ensuring cost-reflective tariff structures, compliance with regulatory requirements, and optimal cost recovery across residential, small business, and commercial customer segments.
The successful candidate will analyse tariff impacts, forecast network charges, and engage with distribution and transmission businesses, regulators, and internal stakeholders. You will provide strategic tariff expertise to support pricing decisions, regulatory submissions, customer initiatives, and the development of new tariff structures supporting distributed energy resources, electric vehicle charging, and demand response initiatives.
You will- Design and implement electricity network tariff structures that balance cost recovery, customer equity, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead annual tariff review processes incorporating distribution and transmission network updates, regulatory determinations, and cost allocation changes.
- Develop financial models to forecast network cost impacts, assess customer outcomes, and support long-term tariff strategy.
- Analyse load profiles, customer consumption data, and demand forecasts to inform tariff design and ensure alignment with cost drivers.
- Monitor regulatory reforms, AER determinations, and DNSP/TNSP pricing proposals to identify impacts on customer tariffs and business strategy.
- Collaborate with pricing, finance, regulatory, and customer teams to integrate network tariffs into broader retail pricing frameworks.
- Support development of new products such as demand response tariffs, electric vehicle charging structures, and distributed energy resource (DER) tariffs.
- Prepare regulatory submissions, reports, and presentations to explain tariff methodology, impacts, and compliance with cost-reflective pricing principles.
- Provide subject matter expertise to internal stakeholders on network tariff interpretation, cost allocation, and regulatory obligations.
- Lead cross-functional projects to implement tariff changes, ensuring billing system readiness, accurate customer communication, and successful market release.
- Benchmark tariffs against industry peers and conduct scenario analysis to evaluate competitiveness and customer impacts.
- Engage with regulators, industry bodies, and network businesses to influence tariff reform and represent company positions.
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in network pricing, tariff design, or regulatory cost modelling in Australian electricity markets.
- Strong understanding of electricity network pricing principles, cost allocation methodologies, and AER regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency in financial modelling, tariff impact assessment, and customer cost analysis.
- Experience with load forecasting, customer segmentation, and demand modelling.
- Advanced skills in Excel; experience with SQL, Python, R, or similar analytical tools highly regarded.
- Knowledge of regulatory processes, including AER determinations, network revenue proposals, and cost-reflective pricing principles.
- Strong project management capability with proven ability to deliver tariff changes across multiple business functions.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical tariff concepts into clear explanations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline required; postgraduate qualifications desirable.
- Strong commercial acumen, attention to detail, and ability to balance compliance with customer and business outcomes.
