Our client is a leading player in the Mining Technology sector, offering innovative solutions and industry expertise to enhance the sustainability and safety of operations in mining and material movement. With R&D offices in Brisbane and throughout the world, this role is based at their Brisbane office, in Brisbane's inner southside.

The successful candidate will enjoy a "hands-on" leadership role, working in a collaborative, Agile environment. They are looking for a person who can apply their software engineering skills to lead the design implementation of innovative applications, taking advantage of cutting-edge technologies in the areas of edge computing and IIoT.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a small team of software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Design, architect, and implement edge computing services.
  • Lead development teams on technical design and implementation, as well as on developing test scenarios and test cases.
  • Analyze code and application execution for optimization and performance tuning.
  • Take a hands-on approach to identifying and mitigating technical risks.
  • Mentor and guide team members, promoting a collaborative and innovative environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years of practical, full-time experience developing and maintaining edge or embedded software on Linux.
  • Strong C++ background and any experience with Python and/or Rust beneficial.
  • Experience mentoring and leading other engineers.
  • Experience with Yocto and AWS IoT Core would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience developing microservices using asynchronous messaging technologies such as ZeroMQ, ActiveMQ, MQTT etc.
  • You consider yourself an authority on modern agile development best practices.
  • Pipelines and a CI/CD mindset.
  • A preference for clarity and simplicity over unnecessary complexity.
  • Must be an Australian citizen, Permanent Resident, or hold a valid work visa.
