We are seeking to establish a pool of Lead School Psychologists for fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up until the end of Term 4, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
OverviewAs a Lead School Psychologist in South Metropolitan Education Region you will be part of a self-directed, collaborative team and directly accountable to the Director of Education. You will also be professionally accountable to the Chief Psychologist. Your practice will be guided and directed by Departmental policies and guidelines and the Psychology Board of Australia's professional standards.
ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership and access to professional support and learning for all School Psychologists, including ensuring professional supervision for provisionally registered psychologists. The position assures the quality of all School Psychologists' practice meets the professional standards of the Department and the Psychology Board of Australia and also leads in the provision of contemporary psychological practices. Broad experience and capacity to provide leadership across all core areas of service delivery (mental health and well-being, learning, behaviour, incident management and disability) will be required.
The suitable applicants will ensure effective deployment of School Psychologists and access to specialist school psychology resources as well as provide direct advice to the Director of Schools, Principals and the system in the assessment and response to complex issues and situations, including emergency and incident management. You will also provide leadership in the development and implementation of appropriate programs, interventions, and evaluations at all levels, including facilitation of systemic change and provide critical evaluation on issues impacting on the School Psychology Service.
As the suitable applicants, you will be capable of developing a team of school psychologists, lead the professional development and ensure practice standards of psychologists with a range of experience from Advanced Skills School Psychologist (ASSP) and Senior Psychologist to provisionally registered and new to the Department of Education. The region supports an ongoing number of provisionally registered psychologists requiring Lead School Psychologists to play a critical role in the supervision process.
Advanced Skills School Psychologist status is highly desirable but not required for appointment to the pool.

Eligibility and Compliance- hold or be eligible for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

- Demonstrated leadership and engagement in a variety of professional activities that indicate critical self-reflection, flexibility, exemplary practice and the development of learning communities.
