Overview

Environmental Health Officer role at Careers at Council. This position supports the Bega Valley Shire Council environmental health programs and services for the communities of the south-east corner of NSW.

As an AR Bluett Award winning Council with a workforce of over 350, we provide essential services including libraries, customer service, finance, children's services, engineering, project management, road maintenance, water management, environment, parks, gardens, and town centres.

Responsibilities
  • Support the service delivery of BVSC's environmental health programs, including surveillance of retail food premises, public health premises, on-site wastewater management systems, BVSC drinking water quality management, environmental health complaint investigation, environmental management, emergency response, and health promotion and education.
  • Assist with the on-site wastewater management inspection program and referral assessment for Development Applications, including associated documentation and statements for environmental health matters where required.
  • Prepare and conduct surveys, monitoring programs or assessments related to potential pollution from commercial or industrial premises.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree level qualification in Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Three (3) years' experience in environmental health and inspections in a local government environment.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in environmental health.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Environment Planning and Assessment Act 1979; Local Government Act 1993; Food Act 2003; Public Health Act 2010; Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to liaise, negotiate and mediate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical and investigative capabilities.
Benefits and Conditions
  • Fixed term, full-time position working 35 hours per week for three (3) years.
  • Total remuneration package commencing at $95,484.48 gross per annum, including: $1,639.50 per week base salary; $196.74 per week superannuation (12%).
