About the role

We are seeking a visionary and strategic Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead the direction, planning, and delivery of digital and information services across the City. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this key role is responsible for driving innovation, business improvement, and digital transformation to enhance service delivery to the community.As CIO, you will oversee the governance and compliance of information assets, including data, records, and digital platforms, while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic direction and delivery of digital and information services aligned with organisational goals.
  • Oversee core systems including Enterprise Resource Planning and Geographic Information System, ensuring effective support and integration.
  • Drive innovation and business improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and customer experience.
  • Ensure robust governance, cyber security, and compliance with relevant legislation, including Freedom of Information.
  • Provide expert advice to the CEO and Council on emerging technology trends and strategic opportunities.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and performance within the Digital and Information Services unit to meet strategic priorities.

About the successful candidate

You are a strategic and forward-thinking leader with a passion for leveraging technology to drive organisational excellence. With extensive experience in senior ICT or digital leadership roles, you bring a deep understanding of enterprise systems, cyber security, and digital transformation.You are confident managing complex projects, leading multidisciplinary teams, and navigating regulatory frameworks. Your communication and stakeholder engagement skills are exceptional, and you thrive in environments that demand innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Other important requirements:

  • Proven experience leading large-scale digital transformation and ICT strategy.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise systems, cyber security, and information governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, resources, and high-performing teams.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., ITIL, PRINCE2, PMP).
  • A current National Police Certificate.

What we offer

This position is a full-time, maximum term contract of up to 5 years. A remuneration package between $164,488 and $201,114 per annum (inclusive of cash salary and superannuation) is on offer, dependent on skills and experience.

1898: Approximately two square miles excised to form the Municipality of Claremont.

1932: Name changed from Claremont Road Board to Nedlands Road Board.

1956: Name changed from Nedlands Road Board to the Municipality of Nedlands.

1959: One hundred and thirty years after the first British settlement around the Swan River, Nedlands achieved City status. Name changed from Nedlands Road Board to the City of Nedlands while under the guidance of Mayor John Charles Smith Esq., JP Mayor.
