Employee Relations are seeking to establish a pool of Senior Consultants Health - Safety and Wellbeing for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during 2025 and up to the end of April 2026. The Employee Relations Directorate is responsible for ensuring that industrial instruments and legislative frameworks are complied with and that employees are supported in a range of discrete human resource matters. The Directorate is made up of two branches: Labour Relations and Employee Support Bureau. It provides strategic and operational advice to the Minister, Director General, school leaders and line managers on a range of employee relations matters. The Employee Support Bureau handles WHS, injury management, staff wellbeing and workers' compensation functions for the whole Department.

The Role

In this role, you will coordinate health and safety incident response processes, provide expert advice to senior management, and assist workplaces in developing effective risk management strategies. You will investigate serious workplace safety incidents and provide senior management with guidance on workplace adjustments to promote a positive and productive working environment.

This position requires strong collaboration and negotiation skills, as you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to maintain compliance with health and safety legislation. You will undertake research and analyse incident and injury data to identify trends and contribute to the continuous improvement of workplace health and safety systems. By driving proactive and preventative initiatives, you will help shape a culture of safety and wellbeing across the department.

This role requires a valid 'C class' driver's licence and the ability to travel to metropolitan and regional schools, sometimes on short notice. We recognise that individual circumstances vary, and we will consider applicants with parenting or caring responsibilities, part-time work arrangements, or medical conditions that may impact long-distance travel during the recruitment process.

Eligibility

To work with us, you must:
  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.

  • hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant field (for example Work Health and Safety, Allied Health, Industrial Relations, Project Management) or equivalent substantial experience.
