About the Role

Eldercare is seeking a dynamic Mental Health Nurse Specialist to lead mental health care across our residential aged care homes throughout South Australia.

This leadership role involves embedding a person-centred, best-practice approach to supporting older residents with mental illness. You will drive clinical excellence, mentor multidisciplinary teams, and champion Eldercare's Mental Health Approach.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Leadership & Capacity Building: Coach and develop clinical leaders and staff to address complex mental health needs confidently and competently.
  • Clinical Practice Improvement: Develop and refine clinical pathways; support staff in pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment strategies.
  • Governance & Quality: Collaborate with clinical governance committees to align mental health initiatives with organizational frameworks.
  • Partnership & Collaboration: Build relationships with external services, research partners, and industry leaders to improve outcomes.

This role offers the opportunity to influence practice, build team capacity, and improve residents' lives.

What You Will Bring:
  • Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) registered with AHPRA
  • Further qualifications in mental health nursing or working towards them
  • Minimum 12 months post-graduate mental health nursing experience
  • Experience in delivering person-centred mental health care for older adults
  • Knowledge of mental health frameworks, clinical governance, and person-centred care
  • Ability to build mental health capacity in teams
  • Coaching and mentoring skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Stakeholder engagement skills
  • Leadership in change management, data analysis, and practical improvements
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to travel across Eldercare sites
