We are looking for an Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Officer to join our high-performance team at Biosecurity Queensland – Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Operational team.

Responsibilities
  1. Independently conduct and oversee activities to achieve efficient and effective delivery of operational goals, working in accordance with relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  2. Provide team leadership by modeling and nurturing a positive team culture, and actively contributing to team capability development through coaching, guiding colleagues, and sharing knowledge, skills, and experience.
  3. Supervise the work of Biosecurity Officers when required to ensure tasks are undertaken correctly and safely.

We are dedicated to safeguarding human and animal health by preventing and mitigating plant and animal pests and diseases. We uphold high animal welfare standards and maintain access to interstate markets, crucial for Queensland's primary industries. Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and market access. Our team collaborates to mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold animal welfare and management standards, and lead DPI responses to biosecurity emergencies, aligning with departmental strategic goals for leadership in animal welfare, ethics, and service delivery.

As our Principal Biosecurity Officer, you will provide operational services to protect and enhance animal biosecurity and welfare in Queensland.

Additional Responsibilities
  1. Undertake compliance activities under the Queensland legislation, including the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 and the Biosecurity Act 2014.
