The CryoTEM Microscopist is responsible for the management, training, performance, safe operation, and maintenance of the ThermoFisher Glacios CryoTEM within the centre.

Adelaide Microscopy is a core facility providing advanced microscopy and microanalysis to the research students and staff of the University of Adelaide. This facility contributes to making the University of Adelaide a world-class research-intensive university.

We are seeking a CryoTEM Microscopist who will oversee the management and operation, training, and performance of the new ThermoFisher Glacios CryoTEM platform within the centre.

The CryoTEM Microscopist will develop protocols related to sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing. The Microscopist will also provide expertise and advice to researchers and postgraduate students, assisting in data processing and interpretation.

To be successful, you will need:

  • Expertise in operating CryoTEM and applying it to solve research problems in biological and biomedical sciences.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the full single particle analysis (SPA) workflow, including optimizing sample preparation protocols, operating CryoTEM systems for sample screening, data collection, and processing/interpretation of data.
  • Strong background in using tools such as cryoSPARC and Relion to process complex CryoTEM datasets.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes within deadlines.
  • Proven ability to deliver results both individually and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in TEM sample preparation techniques.
