Overview

Permanent Full Time position within the Central Sterilising Services Department (CSSD). The Grade 5 position requires an advanced technician who can work in all areas of CSSD with a high degree of autonomy and accountability. Responsible for the management of daily CSSD services, ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are processed in compliance with current industry standards of Reusable Medical Devices (RMDs), Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) protocols and RCH policies and procedures. Oversees the education and assessment of CSSD Instrument Technicians and drives quality improvements to maintain an efficient, high-quality, patient-focused service. Serves as a key contact for the Perioperative Suite and Division of Surgery to ensure safe, sterile, and functional instruments for surgical procedures.

What You'll Achieve
  • Assist in the management of day-to-day activities in CSSD
  • Provide supervision and guidance of all CSSD staff, ensuring quality assurance across all areas
  • Supervise new staff and recently graduated Instrument Technicians
  • Actively participate in education and development of Instrument Technicians
  • Conduct competency assessments for Grade 1–4 Instrument Technicians
  • Coordinate with company representatives to facilitate education in-service and training sessions
  • Participate in the RCH performance development appraisal process (PDAP)
  • Assist in CSSD rostering to align staffing with department requirements
  • Work autonomously in all CSSD areas
  • Serve as an advanced technical resource for CSSD systems and equipment
  • Provide IP&C expertise to ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Maintain adequate stock levels
  • Contribute to clinical risk management and continuous quality improvement
  • Maintain safe working practices and environment
  • Participate in recruitment and selection
  • Performs Higher Duties when senior staff are on leave
Essential
  • Certificate IV in Sterilisation Services or equivalent qualification
  • Greater than four (4) years' experience as an Instrument Technician with extensive knowledge of surgical instrumentation
  • Extensive knowledge of sterilisation procedures and practices
Desirable
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment
