Join our growing Ecology Team and make a real impact. About The Role: We are looking for a talented Ecologist with a passion for the environment to join our growing team in Queensland. Based in our Brisbane office (or optionally in Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast), you'll contribute to a diverse portfolio of natural resource management and infrastructure projects for both public and private sector clients. As part of our national Ecology and Environmental Services team, you'll collaborate with leading experts in Terrestrial, Marine, and Aquatic Ecology within a supportive, multidisciplinary team, gaining exposure to exciting projects across the Asia Pacific region. We offer flexible work arrangements such as work from home, staggered hours, and other flexibility options.
What You'll Be Doing- Provide expert ecological advice on a wide range of infrastructure and natural resource management projects.
- Conduct desktop and field-based ecological surveys and impact assessments, focusing on terrestrial ecosystems, flora and fauna, biodiversity, and habitat.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, environmental analyses, and mapping outputs.
- Undertake ecological research and fieldwork as required.
- Collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated environmental and ecology work packages.
- Engage with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Support and mentor graduate and undergraduate team members.
- Contribute to the growth and visibility of Stantec's ecological services.
What You'll Bring
To Thrive In This Role, You'll Need
- A degree in Ecology, Botany, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Strong identification skills in Queensland flora, fauna, and ecological communities.
- At least 2 years of post-graduate experience in consulting, construction, or regulatory environments.
- Familiarity with Queensland Regional Ecosystem and Biocondition frameworks (or working towards).
- GIS and field mapping tool experience; proficiency in MS Office.
- Solid understanding of environmental legislation and approvals processes at all levels of government.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
- A current driver's licence (4WD experience/accreditation is a plus).
- A flexible, team-oriented mindset with strong commercial awareness.
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours when needed.
- A commitment to safety in all aspects of field and office work.
