Where you'll be working
Royal North Shore Hospital's Emergency Department features Adult and Paediatric Resuscitation and Trauma Bays, Acute Adult, Paediatrics, Fast Track, and Emergency Short Stay Unit (EMU). RNSH is also the principal tertiary referral centre for NSW and Major Trauma Centre which sees us treat a larger proportion of high complexity presentations. We have established teams of qualified registered nurses, many with post graduate specialty qualifications, who are specialists in delivering high quality care as well as fostering staff of the future. We have highly qualified Clinical Nurse Educators and Clinical Nurse Unit Managers and Clinical Nurse Specialists who provide support to ensure our staff and our team are delivering the latest and highest clinical standards with a supportive robust education program. The Emergency Department supports a 12 month post graduate Clinical Accreditation Program, a Second Year Program and individualised specialist training for each area of the department.
What You'll Be Doing
The Nurse Manger Emergency Department (ED) is a senior member in the nursing leadership team having key responsibilities in managing activities within the ED this includes leading the provision of safe, quality patient care and related clinical or operational issues that may occur. The Nurse Manager assumes responsibility for the daily operational functioning of the Emergency Department environment. The role is a key leadership position within the hospital and will drive a strong focus on service improvement and positive cultural change across the services it leads. The post holder will possess sound analytical, financial and negotiation skills.
The role will actively interface with all professional clinical staff groups and lead the implementation of interprofessional ways of working with a focus on patient centred care. The role will be a key contributor for improving patient outcomes, MoH Hospital Access Targets (HATs) and working in partnership with external stakeholders/agencies.

Candidates Will Need To Meet The Following Criteria
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); recognised post graduate/tertiary qualifications in health or working towards the same, including ongoing engagement in professional development to further enhance their management and leadership competencies.
- Recent management experience in an Emergency Department (ED) within a Tertiary referral hospital, demonstrating an understanding of Hospital Access Targets (HATs), review and report on service delivery, and action variance, and a proven ability to work in partnership with external stakeholders/agencies.
- Proven ability to contribute to and advance the operational/business plans for nursing services, coordinate the process of organisational change, monitor and evaluate nursing resource allocations within the Emergency setting.
- Experience and demonstrated ability in leading and facilitating quality improvement activities with a demonstrated knowledge of ACHS National Standards accreditation requirements, WH&S and infection control principles.
- Actively contribute to a positive workplace culture and lead workforce development and succession planning.
- Demonstrated computer literacy and understanding of hospital information systems and Health Roster.
- Sound knowledge of the Ministry of Health's strategic directions, and the nursing and midwifery agenda and its application to the Emergency setting.
