As the demand for their services grows, they are seeking energetic, passionate, and qualified Disability Support Workers to join their team in Beverley, South Australia.
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $65,000 to $80,000 per annum plus superannuation
Position Overview:
The successful candidates will provide essential support to individuals with disabilities, assisting them in achieving greater independence and enhancing their quality of life through personalized care. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist clients with bathing, personal hygiene, showering, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Help clients with mobility, including transferring from bed to chair and using mobility aids.
- Provide companionship and engage clients in social activities and conversations.
- Perform household chores such as cleaning, laundry, and dishwashing.
- Help clients with grocery shopping and other errands. Assist clients with transportation to medical appointments, social activities, etc.
- Accompany clients during daily activities to ensure they feel included and active.
- Assist with mobility and safe movement to enhance physical well-being and independence.
- Plan and prepare meals considering dietary needs to promote overall health, and further help in eating and drinking as needed.
- Organize social activities to foster interaction and emotional well-being.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to foster trust and comfort.
- Administer medications as prescribed to manage clients' health conditions.
- Monitor and document client health to ensure appropriate care is provided.
- Assist with physical therapy exercises to improve clients' strength and mobility.
- Respond to emergencies and provide first aid to ensure client safety.
- Coordinate medical appointments and transportation for necessary medical attention.
- Maintain a safe living environment to ensure clients feel secure and at ease.
Key Selection Criteria:
- At least Certificate III in Aged Care or Disability, or a higher qualification, or an equivalent is essential, or at least 2 years of relevant work experience in lieu of qualification.
- A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
- A minimum of 1 year experience supporting clients with autism, intellectual disabilities, and psychosocial disabilities.
- A minimum of 1 year experience in advanced medical & personal care; particularly with:
- Managing tube feeding, cleaning with PEG tubes.
- Handling urinary catheters, bowel programs, and enema administration.
- At least 1 year experience operating various assistive technologies and devices, such as mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers), communication aids (speech-generating devices), and environmental control systems.
- Certification or training in caregiving, first aid, and CPR.
- A clear criminal background check is required.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting and assisting clients.
- Dependability, punctuality, and a compassionate approach to care.
- Cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent documentation skills for maintaining client care records.
- Ability to handle pressure in a professional and composed manner.
