The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Project Manager to provide a critical role within Custodial Operations.

About The Business Unit

Western Plains Correctional Centre is a modern, maximum-security facility focussed on rehabilitation, housing up to 1248 people in custody. Western Plains features multi-purpose infrastructure which is adaptable to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria and the people in our care. Modern amenities include medical wards, a cultural centre, and vocational training facilities.

Western Plains provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to individualised care which motivates, encourages and promotes reintegration into the community. Western Plains has advanced technology which improves security, streamlines operations and enhances connections for the people in our care.

About The Role

Reporting to the General Manager, this key position will be accountable for project managing the operational development, commissioning and ramp up of the new Western Plains Correctional Centre. The Senior Project Manager will drive good governance arrangements to manage risk and ensure projects are completed on time, on budget and to quality standards that deliver a smooth transition into operation.

As the Senior Project Manager, some of your duties will include:
  • Driving high quality governance frameworks for projects, provides independent monitoring of project performance, identifying root causes, trends and good practices for improving project outcomes.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with senior leadership and stakeholders acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Ensuring effective management of stakeholders throughout project delivery, including appropriate consultation on design functionality, facility operation and transition issues.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Strong project management skills and ability to perform effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in delivering large scale service development programs.
  • A high-level understanding of Project Management methodology.
  • The demonstrated ability to coordinate teams, provide internal consultancy to managers and authoritative advice on complex issues.

Qualifications
  • Relevant planning and project management qualifications is desirable.
  • A Qualification in law, business or criminal justice and or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
