ResponsibilitiesAs the Mechanical Engineering Lead, you will lead a team of engineers through the full engineering lifecycle to design and build hypersonic flight vehicles and associated support equipment. This role combines technical leadership with people management, including mentoring and developing junior engineers, overseeing mechanical engineering outputs, and providing expert guidance across the broader engineering team. You'll be responsible for ensuring adherence to engineering processes and guidelines, while also identifying opportunities to improve and evolve those processes to support innovation and delivery.
- Lead a team of mechanical engineers across the full engineering lifecycle to design and build hypersonic flight vehicles and support systems.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of a team of mechanical engineers and mentor and support their technical development.
- Act as the mechanical subject matter expert, offering guidance across the broader engineering team.
- Review and approve design and analysis of mechanical structures and systems for hypersonic vehicles and supporting ground equipment (Production / Test Jigs).
- Ensure mechanical designs are assessed for Design for Manufacture, Reliability, and the conduct of Failure Modes Effects and Analysis.
- Contribute to the development of new technologies and processes.
- Collaborate with a team of engineers and designers to ensure that the mechanical integrity and performance of the vehicles is maintained.
- Provide guide in the use of computer simulations and analysis tools to evaluate the performance of components and systems under different operating conditions.
- Interact with suppliers and customers for all mechanical elements.
- Manage Mechanical Design resource planning and project allocation in line with business objectives and strategic goals.

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) / Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), or eligibility to obtain.
- Demonstrated prior experience (at least 5 years) of experience in mechanical systems design and simulation, within aerospace or other high-technology industries.
- Proven track record in leading engineering teams with a collaborative, hands-on leadership style.
- Experience in configuration management and the use of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for managing mechanical designs and CAD data.
- Strong expertise in mechanical design and analysis, backed by practical hands-on experience with computer simulations and analysis tools.
- Strong foundations and ability to deliver high-quality technical solutions and demonstrating excellence in core engineering competencies.
- Experience with design for production.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
- Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to identifying and solving engineering challenges.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, dynamic environment with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and engineering software tools.
- Self-driven, adaptable and committed to continuous improvement and team success.
- Driver's License, preferred.
- Background checks, including Australian National Police clearance check.
