The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Bitumen Tanker Maintenance Technician to join our team. This hands-on role involves working with specialised equipment essential for road construction operations.

Your responsibilities include maintaining and repairing bitumen tankers to ensure safe, efficient operation in compliance with standards. If you have a strong mechanical background and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, this could be your ideal role.

The Tasks Ahead

As a Bitumen Tanker Maintenance Technician, your main focus will be on ensuring the reliable and safe operation of bitumen tankers used in road construction and surfacing projects.

You will conduct routine inspections, diagnose mechanical faults, and perform preventative maintenance on tank systems, including burners, pumps, valves, and hydraulic components.

A key aspect of the role involves maintaining heating systems that keep bitumen at optimal temperature during transport and unloading.

You will also perform welding and fabrication repairs, monitor and calibrate temperature and pressure controls, and ensure all work adheres to safety, environmental, and transport compliance standards.

This role requires working both in workshops and occasionally on-site to support operational readiness and minimise downtime.

About You
  • Mechanical and hydraulic system knowledge
  • Experience with burner systems and pipework
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Understanding of hazardous materials handling (especially hot bitumen)
  • Strong safety awareness and PPE compliance
Key Requirements
  • Routine maintenance of bitumen tanks and related equipment (valves, burners, pumps, hoses)
  • Inspecting and repairing heating systems, such as diesel burners or LPG systems
  • Servicing hydraulic systems used for loading/unloading bitumen
  • Checking insulation and tank integrity to prevent heat loss or leaks
  • Cleaning and flushing tanks to remove buildup or contamination
  • Testing and calibrating gauges and sensors (temperature, pressure, level)
  • Performing welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs as needed
  • Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, considering the hazardous nature of bitumen
