Overview

The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ), as a modern & professional statutory authority, is seeking a detail-oriented, technically proficient & motivated individual for the position of Database Administrator. This role is critical in ensuring the integrity, availability & performance of the ECQ's data systems that underpin Queensland's electoral processes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for administering, maintaining & securing the ECQ's databases and data environments. This role will support the development & implementation of robust data infrastructure, monitor system performance, manage database configurations & ensure compliance with data governance & security standards.

This role will ensure the ECQ's data is accurate, secure & accessible, supporting evidence-based decision-making & the successful delivery of electoral events.

Your Contribution And Accountabilities
  • Develop and maintain the ECQ's database standards, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency, security, and compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and organisational objectives.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and testing of the ECQ's data systems and applications, ensuring reliability, accuracy, and alignment with electoral and organisational priorities.
  • Monitor and manage database performance and availability, including proactively addressing incidents and resolving problems to maintain high levels of service and responsiveness across the ECQ's systems.
  • Assist in administering database objects and resources to ensure optimal utilisation, stability, and performance across the ECQ's data environments, supporting scalable and efficient operations.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring tools and event triggers to proactively identify and alert on issues impacting data performance, integrity, or security.
  • Coordinate regular database maintenance activities, including performance tuning, indexing, and optimisation to support the ECQ's operational readiness and responsiveness, especially during election periods.
  • Analyse and monitor database usage metrics, including transaction volumes, response times, and concurrency levels, to ensure efficient performance and inform strategic capacity planning.
  • Coordinate and enforce database security frameworks, ensuring compliance with the ECQ's cybersecurity standards, audit requirements, and data protection obligations.
  • Maintain database security risks, including identified, reporting and manage risks through identifying audit trails, supporting forensic investigations, and ensuring data integrity across all of the ECQ systems.
  • Manage and maintain the ECQ's data backup, archiving, and storage strategies, ensuring system reliability, recoverability, and business continuity through the timely application of patches and upgrades to relevant platforms.
  • Contribute to team cohesiveness, wellbeing, and capability through participation in establishing a positive environment, respectful of the views of others across the Digital Technologies unit and broader ECQ workforce.
  • Consistently display the ECQ and Queensland Government values, ensuring that these are upheld at all levels of the organisation.
