Overview

Applications are invited for an experienced Principal Privacy Officer to join the privacy team at the Queensland Department of Education. You will lead the investigation, management, and resolution of a broad range of privacy issues, including breaches and complaints. You will review privacy impact assessments, provide clear, authoritative advice on privacy compliance and management, supervise privacy officers, and help manage the operational requirements of an expanding team to protect personal information for students, staff, and the parent community.

Your Responsibilities
  • Provide practical and definitive policy, strategic and operational advice related to the department's privacy management and compliance with the Information Privacy Act 2009, the Queensland Privacy Principles, and other statutory obligations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of State and Federal privacy legislation to research, analyse, investigate, manage, and respond to privacy matters and deliver privacy training.
  • Identify and make recommendations to address strategic and systemic privacy issues across the department.
  • Lead multiple simultaneous privacy matters, manage competing priorities, deliver quality work outcomes, and ensure legislative needs are met within scheduled scope and timeframe.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with other privacy officers and contribute to a corporate culture that values client focus, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Role Details
  • Two positions available: one permanent full-time and one temporary full-time (temporary until 27 February 2026, unless otherwise determined).
  • Location: Brisbane, QLD
  • Employment type: Temporary or Permanent (as indicated)
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of State and Federal privacy legislation
  • Experience in privacy impact assessments, breaches, complaints, and privacy advisory services
  • Ability to provide clear, practical privacy guidance and training
  • Experience supervising privacy officers and coordinating an expanding privacy team
