Product of Italy, Box Hill is a well-loved Italian restaurant known for its authentic recipes, fresh ingredients, and a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. Serving wood-fired pizzas, fresh pasta, and classic Italian favourites, the restaurant has built a strong local following.

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Chef to join our passionate kitchen team and support the continued delivery of high-quality Italian cuisine. The role involves overseeing the kitchen by managing kitchen and food preparation team members, deciding on dishes to serve, and adjusting orders to meet guests' requests. The individual will assist in prep work and cook specialty dishes that may change seasonally. Selecting the right ingredients and designing a menu based on availability, popularity, and demand are essential to this role.

All work will be conducted in a fully functioning, very clean, and organised kitchen. Applicants must work well under pressure and time constraints, possess knowledge of different foods and ingredients, have good communication skills, and be receptive to customer feedback to improve future experiences.

Responsibilities And Duties :
  1. Plan and direct food preparation, cooking, and presentation in a busy, fast-paced setting, including entrees, mains, fresh house-made pastas, traditional pizzas, breads, etc.
  2. Set up the kitchen with utensils and equipment such as knives, pans, and scales.
  3. Collaborate with Cooks and kitchen staff for efficient provisioning and purchasing of supplies.
  4. Work with the Director to plan flavorful and popular menus.
  5. Supervise and coordinate activities of cooks and food preparation workers.
  6. Monitor and ensure food quality, quantity, taste, and presentation meet menu and customer preferences.
  7. Perform food prep tasks and check the quality and presentation of orders to ensure consistency and proper cooking.
  8. Plan work on orders so that items served together are finished simultaneously.
  9. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen environment.
  10. Assist the Director with recruitment activities, including shortlisting, interviewing, and selecting candidates.
  11. Stock and maintain adequate food levels at line stations.
  12. Advise on cooking methods and practices.
  13. Support the Director in routine and specific tasks.
  14. Enforce sanitary practices and compliance with health and safety regulations.
Skills And Qualifications
  • AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma, or Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2).
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to handle busy service and maintain food quality in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hardworking with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work within a team and independently.
  • Availability for weekdays, weekends, and nights.
  • Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.

Salary: $75,000 - $78,000
