Job Description

Purpose and Scope:

Ensures appropriate provision of outpatient dialysis services and treatments within assigned hospitals/facilities by coordinating scheduling and directing outpatient care staff and performing dialysis treatments as needed. Ensures the provision of quality outpatient care to all hospitalized patients efficiently, in accordance with company policies and regulations set forth by relevant agencies.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

  • General and Staff Related: Coordinate and schedule outpatient care staff to provide coverage of dialysis treatments, ensuring efficient patient scheduling and staff utilization. Ensure treatments are performed according to policies, procedures, and regulations, with accurate documentation. Provide guidance and support to staff, collaborating with management on staffing and disciplinary actions. Ensure provision of dialysis services such as CRRT, hemoperfusion, peritoneal dialysis, and plasmapheresis. Participate in ongoing training and quality improvement programs. Conduct staff meetings and ensure proper training and documentation. Assess patient needs, communicate with physicians, and oversee dialysis procedures and emergency functions. Administer medications as ordered and act as a resource for staff.
  • Technical: Coordinate with technical staff for machine maintenance, infection control, and equipment management. Operate dialysis equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Administration: Liaise between management and staff, oversee business activities including billing, payroll, and purchase orders. Ensure timely reporting and practice cost containment strategies. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

The role involves desk work, interaction with staff and patients, travel between facilities, and potential exposure to infectious materials. Employees must pass Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment. Reasonable accommodations are available.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.).
  • Minimum of 9 months nursing experience plus 3 months specialized dialysis experience required.
  • Preferred: 6 months dialysis experience in an acute setting, 1 year medical-surgical or ICU-CCU experience, peritoneal dialysis experience.

Skills: Demonstrated leadership, management, communication, and customer service skills.

Relationships: Internal contacts include staff, physicians, and management; external contacts include hospital personnel, vendors, and agencies.

Supervision: Supervision of outpatient care staff, biomedical personnel, and nursing staff.
