EOI - Teacher - Flying Squad - short term opportunities in regional schools
3 weeks ago
Did you know that Queensland state school teachers can volunteer to join our Teacher Flying Squad and take their teaching expertise to where it's most needed, on a short-term basis? It's a fantastic opportunity for teachers and teaching couples to explore rural, remote and regional areas of our state, support your colleagues and students in these communities, and gain valuable teaching and leadership experience in different school settings.
Expressions of interest are sought from existing permanent or temporary teachers currently located in North Coast, Metropolitan and South East Regions to be part of the Teacher Flying Squad Team.
The Teacher Flying Squad enables the department to relocate current teachers to help fill critical vacancies in schools across Far North Queensland, North Queensland, Central Queensland and Darling Downs South West Region, for a minimum of 2 weeks and up to a term.
Permanent teachers undertaking Teacher Flying Squad placements are guaranteed to return to their base school at the end of the short-term placement and temporary teachers may have the opportunity to secure permanency.
Please note: The submission of an application to this pool does not guarantee a placement. Applications will be reviewed and considered throughout the year when a critical vacancy arises. Applicants are requested to withdraw their application in the situation where they are no longer available or interested in pursuing Flying Squad Team employment opportunities from this continuous applicant pool.
Teachers undertaking a placement through the Flying Squad team are supported by a range of incentives, which include:
- Accommodation in a serviced apartment (or similar) with full kitchen facilities, funded by the department OR in a departmental residence with the rent and electricity to be covered.
- Payment of a "living allowance" equivalent to $149 per day, to assist with general living costs.
- Payment of Locality Allowance in accordance with the Queensland Government Locality Allowances Directive (PDF, 424KB) .
- Access to a return trip (either kilometric allowance or flights) to their original departure location, when relocating for one term (10 weeks).
- Kilometric allowance for driving personal vehicle from home to commence at the temporary school and on return at end of appointment.
- Enroute accommodation and meals if driving personal vehicle from home to commence at the temporary school, and on return at the end of the appointment.
It is highly recommended that Permanent state school teachers discuss participating in the Flying Squad Team with their Principal prior to submitting an application, as they will require their Principals approval to be released.
Please note that this initiative is in addition to the ongoing teacher transfer process.
