Senior Legal Counsel/ Commercial Lawyer

Opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel to join a dynamic and well-respected Australian Financial Services organisation, where you'll provide expert legal advice across a broad spectrum of commercial matters.

Reporting to the General Counsel and Company Secretary, this role offers the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders, supporting strategic initiatives and ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements. You'll be instrumental in managing legal risks and delivering pragmatic, commercially sound legal solutions.

Key Areas Responsibility:

  1. Draft, review, and negotiate a diverse range of commercial contracts, including supplier agreements, leases, IT, IP, privacy, competition law, consumer law, and corporate law.
  2. Provide legal advice on strategic growth opportunities, corporate governance, and regulatory change projects.
  3. Monitor and interpret legislative changes, ensuring the organisation remains compliant with evolving legal requirements.
  4. Review marketing materials, business communications, and corporate collateral from a legal perspective.
  5. Develop and maintain pro-forma contract templates and legal policies to streamline business operations.
  6. Oversee an effective contract management framework to mitigate risk.
  7. Manage legal aspects of regulatory matters, including interactions with external counsel and regulatory bodies.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Minimum 7 years post qualification experience as commercial/corporate lawyer in private practice or an in-house environment.
  2. Proven ability to understand and interpret legislation in particular exposure to competition and consumer law, Privacy Act, IP, WHS and Corporate law.
  3. Exceptional legal drafting and negotiation skills.
  4. Ability to think strategically and deliver commercial legal solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the business.
