Overview

Gigalearn provides technology education for libraries, schools, and private clients in the Cleveland area and beyond. Our mission is to help students and educators thrive in the digital age by offering creative technology classes and individualized computer training. We partner with non-profits to deliver comprehensive services including strategic planning, staff development, and grant writing. Responsibilities
  • Teach after-school STEAM/Out of School Time classes during the school year, primarily focusing on GameBOT (game coding and LEGO robotics); may be asked to teach other STEAM subjects.
  • Chaperone classes to ensure a safe, constructive learning environment.
  • Provide daily written class reports to the client and supervisor.
  • Transport, set up, take down, and charge equipment before and after classes.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate use of equipment and supplies.


Qualifications
  • 2+ years' teaching experience in school or non-traditional settings (preferred).
  • Ability to work with students of varying ages, experiences, and abilities.
  • Experience working with students on the autism spectrum (preferred).
  • Dexterity to adapt to changing classroom situations; ability to build rapport with elementary and middle school students.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; demonstrable ability to help students achieve confidence and competence.
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs repetitively and load equipment in and out of vehicle and class locations; capable of light to moderate bending and lifting to set up equipment, tables, and chairs.
  • Must have own reliable transportation suitable for hauling equipment and a valid driver's license; willingness to travel throughout Cuyahoga County.
  • Successful background check required.
  • Must be available for one or more of the following: School year Mon-Fri approx. 3:00-6:00 pm at least 1 consistent day/week (e.g., Tuesdays); School year Saturdays mornings and/or afternoons.


Compensation & Schedule
  • Hourly rate starting at $20/hr; commensurate with experience.
  • Employment type: Part-time; Single term instructor; schedule includes after-school and weekend sessions as listed.


Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a background in youth development and the ability to adapt quickly to a diverse array of student needs and teaching environments. We're looking for an instructor with experience teaching in the classroom or leading out-of-school-time learning for elementary and middle school students. The successful candidate will possess strong classroom management, public speaking, and interpersonal skills to create an interactive, fun learning environment, and to interact with parents and camp hosts in a professional and friendly manner. Experience with Scratch, Alice, Python, HTML, JavaScript, LEGO WeDo, LEGO SPIKE, LEGO Mindstorms, Arduino, or other educational technology tools is a plus. Experience working with students with autism and other special needs is a plus.
