The Harry James Group is partnering with a global EPC providing solutions to the BESS market, which is experiencing growth due to a solid market share and a strong commitment to expansion. We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer in BESS Projects to manage, optimize design, and lead the execution of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. In this role, you will collaborate with project managers, construction managers, customers, outside vendors, AHJ, and consultants.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage project execution, including understanding scope, schedule, stakeholders, and maintaining communication among all parties.
  2. Identify gaps in scope and responsibilities; work with stakeholders to address them to ensure project success, requiring a comprehensive understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, and permitting processes.
  3. Apply engineering principles and consult subject matter experts to identify issues and drive solutions.
  4. Specify equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and protection solutions as required.
  5. Coordinate with internal teams (project managers, product engineers, sales) and external stakeholders (utilities, AHJs, contractors, customers) for effective communication.
  6. Review project design documents including single line diagrams, communication diagrams, layouts, and equipment test reports.
  7. Plan and lead BESS project commissioning activities.
  8. Provide feedback to improve internal processes and products.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Power System Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading project design, preferably in large power stations, PV, or utility-scale power projects.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in BESS or PV projects is preferred.
  • PE certification or equivalent is preferred.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes with local authorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 30%, including visits to Melbourne offices.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, rapidly growing environments.
  • A passion for renewable energy and making a difference is a plus
